Congratulations:
LOOM of the month: Tim Cook
WOTM of the month:
You all did so well on Super Bowl Sunday, bringing in food for the Local Food Pantry. Thank you. Let's do it again! The food pantry is in danger of closing because of lack of donations of food for those families in need. Let's don't let that happen. Show our community we can contribute and be a good neighbor. Whenever you shop for yourself or your family, buy a couple extra items for the pantry and bring them in.
Another Feature: The Lodge has Wireless Internet, so you can bring your Laptops in and meet
friends, have some refreshments and surf the net!

FROM THE GOVERNOR
Greetings,
We will soon be electing a new board of officers. I hope that every officer is going to be ready to work hard to build a bright future for our lodge. Becoming an officer is much more then a name on a piece of paper. It is a commitment to the members of the entire lodge you must be responsive to the input of your fellow Moose brothers/sisters; not just a few, but all of them. You must be willing to share most of the credit with others and shoulder a lot of the blame for the failings with your fellow officers. Hopefully, you will have far more success than you have failure. Remember, not everything you try will work. Your decisions (as a board) will not always be popular with everyone. But if you determinedly work together and don’t give up, you will have a successful year. Of coarse you should be able to say, “We did better than last year.” A successful lodge should be able to say that every year! I sincerely hope the next Board of Officers will surpass anything which has been accomplished in the past at the Brooklyn Moose Lodge!
Recently while in the Social Quarters I was asked the question “Why does the Bartender ask to see my dues card every time I visit the Social Quarters? she knows who I am” she might know
your name, but she doesn’t know the status of your dues or if you have your paid dues card with you. You see, our Liquor license requires that we sell only to members; you MUST have your card
with you should you be asked to produce it as proof? The Constitution and By-Laws of Moose International Sec 50.2— Admission Regulations– Only Good Standing Lodge or Chapter members possessing valid membership cards are permitted to make purchases. BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE EACH DAY, THE MEMBER SHALL DISPLAY HIS OR HER MEMBERSHIP CARD.
This is a private organization whose privileges belong only to its members. Private organizations can retain their protected and tax free status only so long as the members adhere to this requirement.
Carry and show your card proudly, don’t wait to be asked for it.
The Moose Lodge is not just an inexpensive place to have a drink or a hearty meal. It is also where we come to renew ourselves and to reaffirm our commitment to our Moose family.” Let the little children come to me. Do not keep them away” What do those words mean to you? They mean a whole heck of a lot to me. The children of Mooseheart are the reason why I joined the Moose. Do you know that we are the ONLY fraternal organization in existence that truly takes care of our own? Any idea how it’s paid for? Did you know that every single year Mooseheart and Moosehaven starts off the year $32 million dollars in the hole? Every year a portion of each of our membership dues PLUS the interest from the Endowment Fund goes to pay for Mooseheart and Moosehaven. This STILL leaves them $32 million plus in the hole. Every single child at Mooseheart gets an education from K-12. They also learn a vocation of their choice. AND every senior that graduates with at least a ‘B’ average gets a college scholarship. If ANYTHING were to happen to a Moose member in good standing – heaven forbid – their child/children/grandchildren are eligible to live at the loving, self-contained city we call Mooseheart. At 65, every one of us with 15 consecutive years of membership has the opportunity to go live just outside Jacksonville Florida – FOR FREE!! Both of these locations are for the most part self sustaining. They are currently looking at supplying virtually free power at Mooseheart that will pay for itself over the years. No one at these locations is collecting any exuberant salary but the costs of State mandated requirements continue to go up – for example the number of licensed physicians that must be on staff at an assisted living community like Moosehaven and the number of teachers/mentors that must be available at Mooseheart. These are our own brothers and sisters – and one day it may be US. It is said in every single enrollment that has ever happened in this fraternity – “WHAT NOBLER CAUSE CAN THERE BE??” We are All in this together, we all took the pledge to do whatever it takes to support our children and our seniors. Let’s show everyone that we are the happiest place in town and that we care about the things that really matter in life.

WORDS FROM THE OFFICE
Nominations for office are open until March 19, 2012. Elections are on Monday April 2, 2012. Noon till 6:00p.m. All offices are open except one Trustee position held by Harry Hutchinson. The Administrators position is open but the Board of Officers appoints one of the candidates for up to 6 months. If acceptable, he is then nominated by the Board of Officers and voted on at a regular meeting of the membership. If interested, present a short resume to the Governor for consideration. Exercise your rights! Run for an office and VOTE!
We are still looking for some help collecting soccer items for a K-6th grade school. A box is in the lodge for new or good used items. Money is also being accepted to purchase whatever items are not donated. Helping kids is what we do. Thank You!
Don't forget our Pool League, Euchre, Wednesday Dinners, Jack of Spades and special events. Ask at the lodge for details.

CARDBOARD SLED RACE – The cardboard sled race was a great success; children and adults alike went down the hill. There were several very creative sled designs considering that the only items they could use was cardboard and duct tape. Gifts were given to all of the children and plaques were given out. A great time was had by all. We would like to give a big thank you to Sharon Eanes and all of the volunteers. Great Job! Sharon proved we didn’t need snow to have a great race and a good time. Let’s do it again next year.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY, March 17, there will be corn beef sandwiches and the traditional corn beef dinner. There will be a DJ for late afternoon and evening. He may also do Karaoke.
JACK OF SPADES drawing is held at 8pm every Friday through December 7, 2012. You can purchase tickets ($1.00 each) anytime from the bar staff. The pot is growing each week so stop in for the fun and anticipation of whose name will be drawn.
EUCHRE NIGHT is the 4th and 18th of March. The entry fee is $5.00 and .25 per euchre. Starts at 2:00 pm bring a dish to pass. It will go through April. Dates for April are the 1st and the 15th. All monies are distributed to the winners. It is a fun night where you change partners so it gives you a chance to meet people you might not know.
CHAPTER MEETINGS are the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. We encourage you to attend and bring input and ideas to these meetings. Your input and ideas are what makes our Chapter successful.

Our goal is to have every Chapter member who has an e-mail address on our list.
